French press caught Dunkirk for misrepresenting facts

Leading French publications criticized Christopher Nolan's painting "Dunkirk" for deliberately distorting historical facts. The British director, in particular, was accused of ignoring the efforts and sacrifices of French servicemen who allowed the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force.

For example, the famous French historian Dominique Lormier pointed out in a note for HuffPost France that the movie does not mention the deaths of nearly 30 thousand French soldiers, who, in fact, continued to defend themselves while the British contingent was evacuated. "Nolan exaggerated British military accomplishments, but absolutely ignores the French." Another influential publication, Le Monde, accused Nolan of completely ignoring the fact that 120 thousand French were evacuated along with the British troops.

Note that the production budget of "Dunkirk" is estimated at $ 150 million, a comparable amount was spent on advertising the project. Despite these costs, experts predict a very mediocre start in North America. The movie is expected to gross about $ 50 million for the first time this weekend, significantly less than other popular war dramas.

Dunkirk was released on July 20, 2017.
