Following a long tradition, the National Film Registry of the United States at the end of the year presented a list of movie projects that will be considered cultural heritage in North America and will be sent to the special archives of the Library of Congress for eternal storage.

In 2018 to the list includes such masterpieces as "Jurassic Park", "Cinderella", "My Fair Lady", "Rebecca", "The Shining" and others. The oldest movie on this list was a short sketch "Something Good - A Black Kiss," movieed in 1898. It was accidentally discovered in the archive only in 2014. The youngest was the drama Brokeback Mountain, released in 2005, which tells the story of the love of two cowboys.

Note that according to the provisions of the law called "National Film Preservation Act", two dozen movie projects are selected annually, which, according to the experts of the Library, are of cultural and historical value. At least 10 years must have passed since the creation of these movies or cartoons. Film and digital copies are stored under special conditions that allow them to be preserved in unchanged quality for an almost unlimited period of time. In total, by the end of 2018, more than 750 movie projects were already in the repository.
