How to make YouTube child safe

With the onset of the holidays, children have more free time, and they spend the lion's share of it not with friends, but on the Internet. For parents, who are usually busy with work, it becomes more difficult to control how long the child freezes on a smartphone or tablet.

One billion users visit YouTube every day, many of them children and teenagers. However, not all videos on video hosting are intended for viewing by people under 18. No matter how carefully the moderators work, shocking content from time to time gets publicly available.

YouTube is not an entirely family-friendly site, but there are a few simple steps you can take to keep your child safe from unwanted videos.

Use YouTube Kids Platform

YouTube has created a separate application specifically for children called YouTube Kids. It's free for iOS and Android and guarantees access only to secure content.

Download

When you start the application for the first time, you will see a window with basic settings. There you can enable or disable the ability to search for videos. With search turned off, the child will not be able to enter queries on their own in the YouTube search bar or using the voice method. This drastically reduces the chances that he will find something that is not meant for his age.

Turn on YouTube Safe Mode

Go to YouTube and click on the icon with your avatar in the upper right corner. At the bottom of the window, select the line " Safe Mode ". Click on it and select the " enable " option. Safe Mode hides content that is flagged as inappropriate based on user posts and auto-moderation algorithms.

Subscribe only to verified channels

There are tons of family channels on YouTube for all tastes - educational, entertaining, cognitive. Choose some of the most interesting ones. Remember that watching videos is a great way to spend time together and discuss new information with your child.
