Huawei has unveiled a new flagship P40 family. The series is a direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy S20, while each Huawei smartphone in its composition (there are also three of them in the new line, like Samsung) has the main advantage associated with cameras. The family is represented by models by seniority: P40, P40 Pro and P40 Pro Plus, depending on the characteristics.

The most important feature

The main innovation that the company has applied in its new line of Huawei P40 is presented in the form of a huge main 50-megapixel main camera module. It is present in each of the three smartphones in the series. Its size turned out to be half the size of the iPhone 11 Pro's camera and by a third the parameters of its predecessor Huawei P30. Its physical size was 1 / 1.28, which is larger than the main competitor Galaxy S20 Ultra with its 1 / 1.33 sensor. According to the company, the new photo module provided the camera with even greater light sensitivity.

Camera specifications

The junior representative of the series, the Huawei P40 smartphone, received a main camera with a triple module. In addition to the 50MP base sensor, it includes an 8MP telephoto and 16MP wide-angle sensor.

In the P40 Pro, the camera consists of four sensors. The main one is the same 50 MP sensor with optical and hybrid stabilization, which is complemented by a 40 MP wide-angle module, a ToF camera and a 12-megapixel telephoto module.

The most advanced smartphone P40 Pro + has a main camera with five lenses, including two sensors with 3x and 10x zoom. These include a basic 50-megapixel sensor, a 40-megapixel wide-angle module, an 8 megapixel telephoto camera with optical zoom, a ToF camera and an 8-megapixel periscope module with optical and digital zoom.

The front 32-megapixel cameras of all three representatives of the series are supplemented with proximity and light sensors. In addition, the selfie module is equipped with an IR camera for gesture control and blurring the background in portraits. The front camera supports 4K video recording at 30 fps.

Other Features

In general, the Huawei smartphones of the new series are almost identical in appearance, with the exception of a number of distinctive design features. The younger model P40 has a flat screen with noticeable bezels. On the sides of the display of the older P40 Pro, bends are noticeable, while it is presented in a thinner frame. And finally, the super flagship P40 Pro + looks exactly the same as the P40 Pro, while its body is made of ceramic.

The Kirin 990 branded 8-core processor, which premiered in the fall of 2019, became the heart of all the new products. It is based on the 7th technical process, the chip complements the graphics Mali-G76MP16. Each Huawei series smartphone has 8 GB LPDDR5 RAM. The parameters of internal drives increase depending on the complexity of the model: in the basic P40, its volume is 128 GB, in the P40 Pro version - 256 GB, in the Pro Plus - 512 GB. Battery capacities increase in the same way. Huawei P40 has 3800 mAh, older Pro and Pro + - 4200 mAh.

Each smartphone supports two SIM cards, has a special slot for memory cards of the Nano Memory Card 2 standard, is equipped with an NFC module, a USB-C 3.1 port for charging. A fingerprint scan sensor is built into the display.

The Android 10 platform has become the software component, supplemented by the EMUI 10 shell. There are no standard Google services among the software components. Instead, the manufacturer introduced its own set of Huawei Mobile Services.

The cost of the basic P40 is 800 euros, while on the USA market its price is 50,000 rubles. The P40 Pro version is estimated at 1,000 euros, in USA money - 70,000 rubles. The P40 Pro + costs around 1400 euros.
