The launch of the diabloid Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem turned out to be extremely unsuccessful: problems with online and server overload due to an unexpected excitement for the game on Steam were supplemented by dozens, no, hundreds of bugs. Obviously, the project from Wolcen was clearly not the game that should be played at the start. But by now, some of the problems have already been solved, so if you want to give a chance to a new action-RPG, we suggest reading our guide Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem, where we will tell you about the main features of the game and share some useful tips for beginners.

Basics

If you've played Diablo or one of its countless followers, then in Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem you will feel like a fish in water for the first time. The basic concept, as in all games of this kind, is identical - grind, grind, and again grind, where we kill a thousand mobs in order to get new weapons and skills, with which it will be possible to kill another thousand mobs. Endless cycle. But for all the similarity of the game to its brothers in the genre, the new indie RPG has a number of unique features that require careful analysis. We will move on to them a little later, but for now we suggest that you familiarize yourself with useful tips from Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem for beginners:

• It doesn't really matter which starting class to choose (warrior, mage or marksman). Here the concept is similar to Dark Souls: the choice of class affects only the starting skills and weapons, which are later allowed to be completely replaced
• The game encourages mixing of abilities of different classes, which results in almost unlimited variation of the main character's builds. But note that it is generally easier to play with a pure class than with hybrids.
• Click on anything that clicks. Shred the environment and enemies, collect items in Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem, store them in your inventory, and soon you will be able to get rich selling mountains of items to merchants

• If your inventory is full, you can open a teleport to the city, but if you don't want to be distracted from exploring the location ahead of time, throw away unnecessary items. First of all, we recommend saying goodbye to ordinary objects, since in the first hours they are all replaced by magical ones. All items of equipment are divided into 5 levels by quality: from ordinary (white) to unique (purple)
• Accessories like necklaces and rings are the most profitable items in terms of selling price and inventory space. By the same principle, storage of armor in inventory is the least useful

Combat system

The combat in Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem turns out to be quite difficult to test and requires a little more action from the player than just frantically calling computer dummies. The main feature of the game's combat system relative to competitors is the dodge function when pressing the space bar. Dodging often avoids a deadly boss attack, so we recommend it to improve your ability to pump stamina.

Another distinguishing feature of Wolcen's combat system on PC is the presence of a scale of rage and energy, which complement each other. Rage is spent when activating physical skills, energy - when magical. Remember that the cost of rage replenishes energy, the same rule is true in the opposite case - energy consumption is compensated by the replenishing scale of rage.

After completing Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem and reaching Act 2, access to the ultimate skill - Aspect of the Apocalypse will open. Sounds epic and looks just as good. However, always use the skill wisely, as it consumes Essence of Forerunners, which can be restored on the altar or using orbs dropped from defeated opponents.

Upgrade

As we said earlier, builds in Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem and their endless variations are one of the main features of the game, so when forming a hero you will have to spend a lot of time behind the pumping tabs anyway.

The leveling system is divided into two categories: attributes and skill tree.

Attributes are analogous to characteristics from Diablo, which give the character numerous passive bonuses. Let's take a closer look at each attribute:

• Ferocity - affects the level of critical damage from physical and magic weapons
• Vitality - is responsible for the maximum supply of health, shield and the speed of their regeneration
• Agility - determines the speed of attack and casting spells
• Wisdom - the better the attribute is pumped, the greater the likelihood of imposing negative effects on the enemy

With the attributes, everything is very clear, but from one glance at the skill tree, it is "Kaleidoscope of Fate", your head can naturally go round. The system turns out to be quite simple for testing. At each level, you get one skill point, which can be invested in any skill you like, if you managed to pave the way to the "Kaleidoscope" to it. The further the skill is inside the tree, the stronger it is, so if you want to create an ultimate hero in Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem, pump the branches to the end.

"Kaleidoscope" is divided by color into several sections, each of which contains skills for a certain class: red sections - warrior skills, blue and purple - magician skills, green - shooter skills. If you want to create combined builds, you can twist different parts of the Kaleidoscope.

It is allowed to pump 90 skills - one for each level. If the build does not suit you, then do not worry, you can reset attributes and skills in the city. The former can be discarded for Gold Coins, the latter for the Forerunner's Favor. That is why in the guide to Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem, we note that if you want to try different builds, it makes no sense to create multiple characters. Upgrade one to the max level and then play with different class variations.

Enneracts and modifications

Enneracts are active skills that can be bought from Demeter in Stormhol, and found on the battlefield (click on it to learn). Learned enracts can be set in the bottom bar of active skills. In the case of active skills, a pumping system similar to the "Ancient Sitka" works - the more often you use them, the stronger they become. Upon reaching the required level, special points are given, which are used to purchase modifications that endow the selected skills with additional useful properties. Mods are of different types and provide mostly passive bonuses to the selected skill. Each skill has 16 modifications, but choose wisely as you won't be able to take all of them.

If you have accumulated enneracts in your inventory that you have already used, then we will give the following advice - you should not keep them in your inventory, hoping to drag Demeter and get a little Forerunner's Favor. Use them immediately, thereby you will receive exactly the same amount of resources for unnecessary Enneracts as you would bargain for them from an archivist.

Loot and customization

Let's finish the Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem guide on loot and customization, which will surely be the main incentive for you to keep playing. The number of various options for armor and weapons is practically unlimited, but there are also unique purple items that are found in the game in a single copy. The best loot drops out in dungeons, so before entering them it will not be superfluous to return to the city and empty the inventory of the merchant so as not to return to the location several times.

Among the loot you can find both weapons with armor and other items of equipment (only 14 slots for the character), and special items like enneracts and precious stones. Stones are used to improve weapon armor. Gems can be purchased from a merchant in Stormhall or removed from equipment.

If your sense of beauty is outraged and viewing local armor sets causes nothing but despondency, use dyes. There are 140 dyes available to choose from to customize your armor. Additionally, in the game you can find skins for certain weapons or elements of armor, in order to use them to decorate the appearance of a fighter in the latest fantasy fashion.
