Microsoft plans to make its latest operating system heavier - updating Windows 10 will require 7 GB of free disk space. Thus, the company wants to stabilize the process of updating the branded "ten", but the exchange system needs extra gigabytes.

Microsoft justified the decision to take up additional disk space by the need to protect user PCs from errors at the time of unpacking the update. The current version of Windows 10 with the October Supplemental Update, if there is not enough free space, stops the entire installation and reports a process failure. The flaw was due to the lack of a function to check for the availability of the necessary disk space even before the download of updates.

Also, the October update "became famous" for unauthorized deletion of some user files in the background, thus causing not the most flattering opinions about yourself. The December patch will be remembered by users of a decrease in the performance of desktop devices, including powerful laptop and PC models. Sometimes users got a blue screen after unpacking an update, and an attempt to fix the situation in some cases led to reinstallation and restoration of the entire system.

The innovation will appear in one of the future updates of the tenth Windows, but the exact timing of its release has not yet been announced. In addition, the new Windows 10, along with the new backup function, will also be supplemented by the Windows Sandbox tool - a system "sandbox" where you can run files and programs with dubious security in a safe environment. The sandbox will act as an additional protection against viruses and a way to protect personal data. In addition to the announced innovations, the Windows 10 system will receive a new engine for the proprietary Edge browser, which replaces Internet Explorer. In place of EdgeHTML, a world-standard Chromium engine will appear.

Having 7 gigabytes of free space that needs to be allocated for system files can be a daunting task for owners of outdated laptop models with 32 or 64 GB internal memory. In fact, the operating system will take up most of the disk space on their devices. Owners of budget laptops will have to replace the device or purchase an external drive. At the same time, it is impossible to cancel the installation of a new update of the "tens" at the user level, since the system update works by default. However, owners of devices with a small amount of internal storage have a few days of head start - a future update of Windows 10 will provide a one-week delay, during which owners of outdated laptops will be able to resolve the issue of updating the OS.

The 7 GB reserved storage will store temporary system files, which after integration will be gradually deleted as new updates are unpacked. In addition, if the backup storage is insufficient for all the required packages, the system may take up some more space by default. The amount of extra space will depend on the size of the unpacked files.

Microsoft has many plans for 2019 related to innovation and innovation. However, not all of them are related only to Windows. In addition to updating the Edge engine and the emergence of a sandbox, the company is working on a universal platform Project Mu to standardize the UEFI software system.
