5 cool new mods worthy of your attention

Mods for games are like people - there are a lot of them and most of them are mediocre. This does not mean that all of them are terrible, just often the modifications either have little effect on the gameplay and are installed for laughter (for example, the mod replacing Mr. X in RE2 Remake on a goose from Untitled Goose Game], or adjust the balance, remove glitches or improve the graphics. We in our digests from time to time track interesting mods that can really make you want to return to the game. Therefore, we decided to systematize them and compile a small selection of 5 interesting new mods worthy of your attention. Consider this a small author's list.

Minecraft School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

There are quite a few Harry Potter games, especially good ones. The first two games from the main series will forever remain in my heart, and I confess at one time the controversial fifth part was not without pleasure, since I really wanted to plunge into the atmosphere of the school of witchcraft and wizardry. The Order of the Phoenix looked at the time of its release, probably, as the best we have. At least it seemed so. All hope Warner Bros. are really preparing PRG for this franchise and it will be good.

In the meantime, I suggest you get acquainted with the project of the team of modders Floo Network, who completely recreated all the most famous locations from Harry Potter in Minecraft and even screwed in pretty good gameplay there.

For starters, the mod is completely recreated Hogwarts with all the surrounding areas, like Hagrid's hut, the forbidden forest and the Quidditch field [and yes, you can fly there on a broomstick]. The castle is not empty and filled with students, and you are one of them. You have to go through tasks, conjure [authentic spells, and the cubic patronus is so lovely at all], fight monsters that were in books and films, complete quests and collect loot.

The mod also recreates other iconic locations like Diagon Alley where you can shop, Hogsmeath Village, UK Department of Magic, King's Cross Station with the famous 9 Station and much more.

There are also cult characters and monsters in the game that Potter confronted. I can't tell you about Voldemort as I haven't seen him in the trailer.

Development has been in progress since 2015 and at the time of this writing, the mod should be out in a week [so go to the mod channel and look for it there]. You don't need any additional settings or mods, the map is fully functional. But the important point is that so far it only works on Minecraft Java Edition.

GTA SA: Marvel's Spider Man

This mod, to some extent, could also be called a modification in order to install and shout. But the more he developed, the more it became clear that everything was not so simple. Loner modder J16D recreates the mechanics of Marvel's Spider Man in GTA San Andreas.

At this point, he has completely introduced flying on the web, climbing and running on walls. And you know what? This is amazing! Now Karl can try on different spider costumes and fly around different cities in the state of San Andreas. In one of the cities, the modder even recreated the Avengers Tower.

Moreover, if earlier it was possible to fly only in areas with skyscrapers, now he has introduced more flight animations, and the ability to do it anywhere. He is also currently working on challenges and other gameplay elements. In the latest trailer, he introduced the ability to perform acrobatic stunts for shooting on camera.

Sony, according to Western journalists, intends to more often share its exclusives and who knows, maybe one day we will see the original Marvel's Spider Man on PC. But now this mod, although it is far from a full-fledged game [that's putting it mildly], still warms the soul.

Left 4 Dead 2: Chernobyl

There are quite a few good mods for Left 4 Dead 2, but late last year came the one that many fans have been waiting for for a long time, Left 4 Dead 2: Chernobyl. The project is long-term construction, which has been crawling towards release for 9 years. In a way, it continues the story of the original game.

The plot is as follows. The virus continues to spread and turn people across Europe into zombies. The survivors find out that in a cold environment the virus becomes weak, so the heroes decide to reach the tundra in Siberia. They get there by helicopter and work their way through Chernobyl. The logic is as follows - this is an exclusion zone and there are no people there, therefore, zombies, most likely, too.

But it turned out to be a mistake, and they get stuck in an abandoned city. The modders have divided the company into chapters, and they release them in parts. The first chapter is out now and you can download it from Steam Workshop or Mod DB.

Vice Cry: Remastered

This and the next mod I call projects from the category "my own developer". A group of lunchxbles modders have made a mod that turns GTA V into a Vice City remaster. This is a port of Vice Cry, a popular mod for GTA Vice City that reimagined the game's graphics back in 2015.

There was a fresh update recently, as version "1.0" was released on December 20, 2019, about a month after the launch of the official trailer. Vice Cry: Remastered works like a DLC, with new models and textures, working traffic lights, customizable population, cars, improved water mechanics and other goodies.

In the trailer, we see some original missions with Tommy Vercetti, but you won't be able to complete the game. However, new missions have been added to Vice Cry: Remastered, making this mod more than just a fun transfer of Vice City.

In any case, now you can take a walk along the renovated streets of the city. Vice Cry: Remastered certainly looks beautiful, but it is probably the most unfinished of all the mods presented here, so consider this fact before downloading.

Mafia II: Old Time Reality

I wondered if it was worth adding this mod to the list, but in the end I decided that someone would be interested in it. Mafia 2 was released 10 years ago, and is one of the few games in the 50s setting. The noir atmosphere conveyed to Empair Bay was remembered by many, even though there was not much to do in the city itself.

Modder QTmodz with the help of his modification Old Time Reality tweaked the graphics of the game so that the picture was more realistic and juicy. He tweaked the lighting, post-processing, moved the camera and basically made a lot of edits. It differs from similar modifications in that it makes the graphics not so much better as more authentic. Personally, I like his work done, despite the fact that many on the forums complained about too bright contrasts. However, the work has been prolonged significant, since it is difficult to tinker with the light in games.

He also did a great job with the weather within the game, making different variations of it, and adding all four seasons of the year.

However, the mod does not add anything more than the corrected artificial intelligence of the cops. But I thought this new mod was worthy of your attention. So far, the setting is in beta, but you can already download it, and then just install new updates. After all, this person has big plans, although he has not yet shared what specifically he wants to introduce.
