War on the Impossible

Image The desire to break the code of the encryption machine Enigma in the drama The Imitation Game led Black Bear Pictures to a Oscar nomination. Now the production company has decided to devote the audience to a slightly different competition, and it is connected with the search for a cure for polio in the 50s of the last century.

According to the website Deadline , Teddy Schwartzman's company won the auction and will pay a six-figure sum for the script application for The Impossible War by Robert Speckland . Schwartzman will handle the production himself with Ben Stillman (City of Vice) and Peter Dilbert.

The film will focus on events in the life of Jonas Salk and Albert Sabin , who sought to triumph over time and each other in search of a vital medicine. It took Salk seven years to develop a polio vaccine. It was recognized as effective in 1955 - just three years after an epidemic of the disease killed more than three thousand people in the United States, and ten years after the death of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who also fell victim to the disease. Sabin developed the first oral vaccine, which was introduced in 1961.

Black Bear has produced not only Imitation Games but also films such as Gold and Mudbound Farm. The latter was warmly received last month at the Sundance festival, but Gold with Matthew McConaughey fell short of distributors' expectations, having a poor start in the North American box office.
