Lionsgate Studios Learn the Samurai Code

Image To the great disappointment of connoisseurs of oriental culture, in recent years, Hollywood rarely indulges moviegoers with films about samurai. According to The Hollywood Reporter , Lionsgate is ready to fix the sad situation. The American studio plans to tell viewers about the amazing adventures of the valiant warrior Yasuke , who is considered to be the first black samurai in Japanese history.

Some modern historians believe that the protagonist of the upcoming film was named Yasufe and was originally from Portuguese East Africa. It is assumed that he arrived in the Land of the Rising Sun in 1579 in the company of the Italian Jesuit Alessandro Valignano . A couple of years later, Yasufe got an audience with the powerful feudal lord Ode Nobunaga , who named him Yasuke and offered to become his squire.

In 1582, Nobunaga was betrayed by the commander Akechi Mitsuhide and was forced to commit hara-kiri. After the death of the overlord, Yasuke pledged loyalty to his eldest son. Soon the clan Nobunaga entered into battle with the army of Mitsuhide , but was defeated. However, Yasuke himself showed such courage on the battlefield that Akechi decided to save his life.

Back in his student years, he invented the story of the immortal Scotsman Connor Macleod , which in 1986 formed the basis for the script of the cult fantasy film Highlander.
