Lawnmower Goes Virtual Reality
It seems that until recently, traveling to virtual reality was just a distant dream of science fiction writers. The future turned out to be much closer than they expected: nowadays almost everyone can afford buying VR glasses. The amount of content for virtual reality devices is growing rapidly and it is no longer surprising that Oscar-winning filmmakers agree to participate in the creation of projects in a promising format.One of the most famous virtual reality films is the sci-fi thriller Lawnmower , starring Pierce Brosnan and Jeff Fahey. The film by Brett Leonard did not cause much enthusiasm among the critics, but more than paid off its $ 10 million budget. Originally, the 1992 film was supposed to be titled " Cyberbog ", but the management of the film company New Line Cinema decided that the project would arouse more interest among viewers if it was positioned as a film adaptation of Stephen's story King's “ Lawnmower ”. The studio even planned to include the name of the writer in the title, but the King of Horrors through the courts obtained a ban on mentioning his name, since the script of the film had almost nothing to do with the plot of his work.  The protagonist of the thriller was the mentally retarded gardener Job , who, as a result of a scientific experiment, acquired outstanding intelligence, telepathic powers and the ability to travel through cyberspace. In 1996, a sequel was released, in which Matt Frewer replaced the role of Job Faye . Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace not only fell short of critical acclaim, but was also a crushing flop at the box office. The budget of Farhad Mann's film is estimated at $ 15 million , and his collection in the United States did not even reach $ 2.5 million .  The rights to " Lawnmower " are currently owned by Jim Howell ("Butler Bob") and Rupert Harvey ("Critters"), who have decided to attempt to revive the franchise. According to IGN , Hollywood producers intend to join forces with Jaunt on a virtual reality series. Jaunt 's first experience in the serial industry was last year's action thriller Invisible. Famous Hollywood director Doug Lyman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow) directed the five-part project with a 360-degree view.  The debut turned out to be so successful that in addition to " The Gasmaker " the management of Jaunt decided to launch four more new series into production. Viewers will have the opportunity to look at the world through the eyes of an android in the project Miss Gloria , the plot of which was invented by the author of the bestselling " Robots of the Apocalypse " Daniel H. Wilson. VR lovers will also be able to travel to an abandoned lunar station in the 12-episode horror movie Luna . The series will be written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (Assassin's Creed) and directed by Robert Schwentke (RED). Young actor Ty Sheridan ("X-Men: Apocalypse") will take on the functions of scriptwriter and producer of the project The Enlightened Ones , which will tell about an alternative universe in which all people on the planet were able to gain immortality. Finally, the six-part comedy Bad Trip by Todd Strauss-Schulsson ("A Deadly Christmas for Harold and Kumar") will show you the impact different types of drugs have on a person.
