Life repeats Lord of the Flies

Image While Hollywood is preparing a new adaptation of Lord of the Flies, the producers are interested in another story, similar to the plot of the novel by William Golding. But her events took place not on the pages of books or in the movies, but in real life. Now British and American studios are fighting for the rights to the project, which has already been dubbed "the real Lord of the Flies." It will be based on an article published by The Guardian last week that caused quite a stir in such a short time.

In his new book, the historian Rutger Bregman wanted to express a more optimistic view of humanity than Golding in his famous novel. He began to look for material and wondered if there were events similar to the plot of Lord of the Flies in real life. Bregman was lucky: in one of the Australian newspapers he came across an article about the guys who had lived for more than a year on a desert island. In 1965, six teenagers, tired of school, stole a boat and set out on an adventure. Their ship crashed in a storm, and after eight days on the high seas, they finally made it to a desert island. Unlike the feral heroes of Lord of the Flies, the guys relied on friendship and teamwork to survive. They stayed on the island for 15 months, all this time they ate fish, coconuts, birds.

Bregman conducted a small investigation and managed to find the very sailor, as well as one of the surviving guys. Insiders claim that the story has caused an unprecedented excitement among producers who want to make a film or mini-series based on it.
