Yorgos Lanthimos will tame the Hockline monster
From mind-flipping and transcending Fang and Lobster, Yorgos Lanthimos moved on to the much-vaunted Favorite, which received ten Oscar nominations, so Lanthimos's directorial horizons are vast. As his new project, he chose an equally curious and unusual film with a long Hollywood history - the adaptation of the novel by Richard Brautigan "The Hockline Monster.Speech in the literary source is about two mercenaries from the Wild West. From a girl named Magic Child, they receive a task - it is necessary to kill a monster living in ice caves under Miss Hockline's house. In fact, everything turns out to be not so simple, and the reader is immersed in a world where western, gothic horror, fantasy and comedy are intertwined. The history of the Hockline Monsters' cinematic adaptation goes back to the 1980s. Then Hal Ashby tried to film Brautigan's book. The director managed to attract such stars as Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, Jeff Bridges, but did not get along with Brautigan, who wrote the script for the tape, and he, in turn, refused to redo his text. After Ashby's death, Tim Burton, who saw in the characters of the mercenaries Jack Nicholson and Clint Eastwood, took on the "Monster of the Hocklines", but nothing came of it.
