”DAU. Natasha” and ”Farsi Lessons” can go to Reykjavik for the prize

Image Among the contenders for the European Film Awards of the European Film Academy were two USA films. These are the sensational film "DAU.Natasha" by Ilya Khrzhanovsky from the cycle "Dau" and the war drama by Vadim Perelman "Lessons of Farsi".

In total, this year 32 films from European countries, including USA and Ukraine, were nominated for inclusion in the list of applicants, from which the film “Atlantis” by director Valentin Vasyanovich was nominated. In the fall, several more projects will be added to them, which, due to the pandemic, were late with the rental. On November 7, film academics will announce the final list of nominees for the award. The EFA 2020 ceremony itself will take place in Reykjavik, Iceland on December 12th.

Ilya Khrzhanovsky's biographical drama "Dau" tells about the life of the outstanding Soviet physicist Lev Landau. The project is based on the memoirs of Landau's wife, as well as on archival materials. This year "DAU.Natasha" was banned from showing in cinemas in USA, and at the Berlinale received the "Silver Bear" for outstanding artistic achievements (camera work). The film Lessons of Farsi tells the story of a Belgian Jew, Gilles Cremier, who ends up in a concentration camp. To survive in this hell, he pretends to be a Persian. The camp's cook dreams of opening a Persian restaurant and takes Gilles to teach him to speak Persian. The film is a joint project of USA, Germany and Belarus.
