Leviathan will compete for the European Film Awards

The movie "Leviathan", directed by USA director Andrei Zvyagintsev, has been named a nominee for the main European movie award, the European Film Awards. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Its competitors will be the winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival - the Turkish drama "Winter Sleep", the Polish movies "Ida", "The Nymphomaniac" by Lars von Trier and the French drama "Force Majeure".

Andrey Zvyagintsev will also be nominated for an award in the director's nomination and the category "Best European Screenwriter". Alexei Serebryakov, the leading actor in Leviathan, has been nominated for the Best European Actor award.

Previously, Zvyagintsev's project was recognized as the best at the International Film Festival in London, and also received the Cannes Film Festival award for the best screenplay. The movie will represent USA in the fight for the Oscar 2015 in the nomination "Best Foreign Language Film".

Note that the last few years the movie, which received the main award at the European Film Awards, then won the Oscar. The European Film Awards ceremony will take place in Riga on December 13, 2014.
