Denis Villeneuve designed sandworms for a year
The director of Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival is known for his love of detail, but never ceases to set new records. Denis Villeneuve said that he and his team spent a whole year designing sandworms for the new Dune.“We discussed every detail of this monster. The texture of his skin, the way he opens his mouth and feeds - nothing remained without our attention. We devoted the whole year to creating a design and finding the most suitable form of a sand worm to make the monster look prehistoric and at the same time quite believable ", - the creator of the picture shared. The film adaptation of one of the most famous science fiction novels of the 20th century, Dune is set in a future where humanity has spread to distant planets, and various powerful families are constantly fighting for control over habitable space. The main conflict is centered around the personality of a young aristocrat Paul Atreides (Timothy Chalamet), who will have to save the planet. Villeneuve has previously stated that he plans to stay close to the original when making the film. In this he will be helped by screenwriter Eric Roth, who worked on the classic films Forrest Gump and The Mysterious Story of Benjamin Button. The sandworms that took Villeneuve so long first appeared in the works of Frank Herbert. These gigantic creatures inhabit the desert planet of Arrakis and in the process of their vital activity produce a melange spice - an addictive substance that has mysterious properties and is incredibly valuable in the Dune universe.  A gorgeous cast will help recreate the world of Dune on the big screen: in addition to Timothy Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Zendea, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Batista and Javier Bardem took part in the filming.
