Timothy Chalamet awaits at Arrakis

Image Legendary Pictures has begun recruiting the cast of one of the most ambitious film projects in recent years - the new adaptation of Frank Herbert's cult science fiction novel Dune. As it became known to Deadline, Oscar nominee Timothy Chalamet is nominated for the role of Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve's film.

The 22-year-old American is considered one of the most talented actors of his generation. The real breakthrough in his career was last year, when he starred in the films "Lady Bird", "Foes" and "Call Me by Your Name." The role in the latter brought Timothy a couple of dozen different film awards and the first ever Golden Globe and Oscar nominations.

Legendary acquired the rights to the film adaptation of Dune in November 2016. A month later, the studio began negotiations with Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049), who assured the audience that the new adaptation of the first part of the book series The Chronicles of Dune would be true not only to the spirit, but also to the letter of the original.

According to Hollywood insiders, Chalamet is in the final stages of negotiations with Legendary management. If the actor signs the contract, he will play the young heir of House Atreides, who arrived on the desert planet Arrakis. Previously, Paul Atreides portrayed Kyle McLachlan in the 1984 film adaptation of Dune and Alec Newman in the miniseries Dune and Children of Dune.

The start date of filming has not yet been announced.
