Tom Hanks will go to the moon
After Max Steele flopped at the box office in 2016 and earned a humiliating 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, toy company Mattel stopped trusting Hollywood bunglers and opened its own film department. Studio Mattel Films has already managed to announce several high-profile projects - from the long-awaited reboot of He-Man and the Lords of the Universe and ending with a movie about a Barbie doll performed by Margot Robbie. Today the fledgling company has made another major reputational move with two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks.Everyone's favorite actor will star in a film about astronaut Matt Mason, who lives and works on the moon. The toy hero was invented in the mid-60s, when the whole world was watching the space race between the USSR and the USA. Hanks became interested in Major Mason's image back in 2011. Robert Zemeckis ("Back to the Future") was wooed into the director's chair, but in the end the project was never implemented. It looks like the creation of the Mattel Films division helped unfreeze the picture.  The script for Major Matt Mason will be written by Akiva Goldsman, Tom's acquaintance with The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons. The family film will be directed by Paramount Studios.
