Horse enters the cinema
The Village Roadshow has acquired the rights to film A Horse Walks Into a Bar, a comedy novel by Israeli writer David Grossman. The project is at a very early stage of development, so it has not yet acquired a scriptwriter and director. The book was published in 2014, translated into 40 languages and in 2017 won the Booker Prize.In the center of the plot of the printed original is a 57-year-old stand-up comedian named Dovele Ji, who invited an old acquaintance to his performance. However, gradually the monologue of the protagonist turns from a fountain of sparkling jokes into a bitter confession, and the audience, one after another, begins to leave the hall. And only a friend remains in his place, because Dovele clearly intends to touch upon their common secret in his speech and make it public. Grossman is not only a popular writer, but also a public and political figure, whose speeches are imbued with love for his native country, and therefore often touch upon both the difficult history of Israel and criticism of the authorities.
