Great Britain will speak with black women
The production company Potboiler, behind The Faithful Gardener, has acquired the rights to film the novel Girl, Woman, Other by British writer Bernardine Evaristo, which won the Booker Prize last year. The project will be curated by Andrea Calderwood and Gail Egan.Evaristo's book remained in the top 10 Sunday Times bestsellers for nine weeks, and the writer herself became the first black woman to receive a Booker. The plot of the novel is the story of modern Great Britain, told by the voices of 12 people, mostly also black women, who call this country their home. Other projects successfully implemented by Potboiler include the dramatic horror film The Newborn starring Donal Gleason, and the company is developing an Americanah series about immigrants from Nigeria starring Lupita Nyong'o.
