Two Deadpool for the Price of One
In March of this year, the Walt Disney Empire paid $ 71.3 billion for Fox Corporation's core assets. Disney executives decided to take stock of the deal and evaluate the box office prospects for the newly acquired films and franchises.When signing a contract with Disney, Fox owner Rupert Murdoch did not think about the fate of his employees. Some have already lost their jobs, while others will receive severance pay in the coming months. Now employees of the film company have another cause for concern. Disney CEO Robert A. Iger accompanied 20th Century Fox's financial statement by saying, “The studio is doing much worse than in years past. When we made a prediction of the negative development of the situation, we did not assume that everything would turn out to be so bad”. Hollywood hasn't seen such a public flogging in a while. A new wave of layoffs is likely to follow. Disney's discontent is understandable. Over the past few months, just one Fox picture has brought the studio a solid profit. It turned out to be the religious drama Breakthrough, which earned $ 50 million with a budget of $ 14 million. As for the company's unprofitable projects, the blockbuster X-Men: Dark Phoenix stands out.  Unsurprisingly, Disney has already canceled several of Fox's underperforming projects. A sad fate awaits the long-suffering film comics "New Mutants". Disney people are disappointed with the draft version of the film and believe that it will not be able to collect a decent amount at the box office. This spring, producer Simon Kienberg announced that Josh Boone's tape needed additional filming. After Iger's words, it's hard to imagine that the studio would allocate millions of dollars to rework the film. It is possible that New Mutants will lose their theatrical release and go straight to online services in their current form.  Disney is also currently deciding what to do with Deadpool. The first tapes about the chatty mercenary came out under the banner Fox and received an R rating. Now the film series has moved under the wing of the Marvel studio, which has not yet risked making films with strict age restrictions.
