The mouse killed the fox

Image There is a legend that Walt Disney knew the names of not only all his subordinates, but also their family members. A Hollywood tycoon could easily walk up to an ordinary hard worker and ask about his household chores. Not surprisingly, the studio staff felt like they were part of a huge family of films. Unfortunately, these days Disney more and more often looks not like an idyllic company, but a corporation of evil. Today it became known that Disney will erase the name of the legendary studio 20th Century Fox.

In March last year, Disney acquired key assets of Fox. The deal to acquire the film and television departments of Rupert Murdoch Corporation cost $ 71.3 billion. "The Fox family companies will join The Walt Disney Co., but retain their original names," promised Robert A. Iger. Disney CEO didn't keep his word: the rebranding of Fox studios is coming.

Disney has already laid off hundreds of Fox employees. The House of Mice will not stop there and will deprive subsidiaries of their main wealth - names. Recall that 20th Century Fox was born in 1935 as a result of the merger of Fox Film Corporation and Twentieth Century Pictures. In the year of its 85th anniversary, the company that gave the world "Star Wars", "Titanic", "X-Men", "Die Hard", "Alien", "Avatar" and many other movie hits will lose its original name. From now on, 20th Century Fox and Fox Searchlight Studios will be named 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures, respectively. Disney will also rework the logo and iconic Twentieth Century Fox screensaver.

Ironically, Disney's positioning as a cute family company is cited as the main reason for the rebranding. Several years ago, a sex scandal broke out in America involving the top officials of the Fox News channel. Apparently, the Disney people decided that the old names of the studios would be associated with this unpleasant story. Insiders are still at a loss to say whether Fox's television departments will also be renamed.
