Difficulties of small business
Diane Houston, nominated for an Oscar for the short film Tuesday Morning Ride, will direct the biopic The Melony Armstrong Story. The project is being developed by the Moving Picture Institute. Dayan will also write the script for the film, which will begin filming next spring.The plot centers on the inspiring story of Melonie Armstrong, who works in a shelter for battered women. To achieve independence for herself and her children, she decides to start her own braiding business. But before that happens, she will have to overcome many obstacles that will be posed by the powerful local cartel and the Mississippi state authorities. Houston recently co-wrote the drama Seacole, starring Gugu Embata-Ro, and previously worked as a writer and director on Fox's "Empire".
