Studio Universal did not abandon the idea - to develop its Dark Universe and chose the director for the fantastic movie "The Invisible Man". According to Variety, he will be the creator of the thriller "Upgrade" Lee Whannell. He will also prepare the script for the movie. Previously it was believed that Johnny Depp would play the main role, but the studio decided to refuse the actor's services. Who will replace him is still unknown. Note that for the first time Depp's readiness to play in a movie based on the work of H.G. Wells was announced in 2016. However, since then, circumstances have changed a lot both for the actor and for the entire Dark Universe. At the end of 2017, it became known that the project was left by its leaders and ideological inspirers Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan.
