Successful catch of Philip Yuriev's ”Whaler” in Venice

Image The winner of the "Days of Authors" program of the Venice Film Festival has been determined. It was the debut film by USA director Philip Yuriev "Whale Boy".

This adventure or, as the director himself called it, ethnic drama tells the story of two young people: a simple fisherman from Chukotka and an American woman from Detroit. They met thanks to the appearance of the Internet in the Chukotka village. A hunter in love goes to his girlfriend in America through thousands of kilometers of land and the Bering Strait.

All the roles in the film were performed by non-professional actors, and the shooting itself lasted for seven whole years. "Kitoboy" was filmed by the studio "ROK" of Alexei Uchitel ("Matilda"), and assistance was provided by the Ministry of Culture of USA and the Roman Abramovich Cinema Support Fund "Kinoprime". The premiere of the film in USA will take place at "Kinotavr", the opening ceremony of which took place on September 11 in Sochi.

The Days of Authors program dates back to 2004 and runs in parallel with the main show. The jury of the program is headed by last year's Berlinale winner, Israeli Nadav Lapid ("Synonyms"). The main winners of the 77th Venice Festival will be announced today.
