Netflix will turn a banking scam

Image Netflix will tell about a clever fraudster who found a flaw in the bank transfer system: the online service is preparing a film based on Tanya Smith's memoir, The Ghost in the Machine.

The action takes place in the 80s of the last century, when Smith came up with a clever way of taking money from US financial institutions. She called the central offices of banks and introduced herself as an employee of some godforsaken branch. Tanya asked to transfer a small transfer to the local branch in order to solve an easy financial problem. Since the amount was only $ 5-7 thousand, the employees of the head office did not check the information and made a transfer in the name of Smith or her accomplices. The scammers had only to go to the desired branch and get cash.

The FBI underestimated Tanya's talent and the stupidity of the bank employees. The agents thought that the girl would quickly go to jail, but she managed to deceive dozens of American banks. As a result, the FBI recognized Smith as one of the greatest threats to the entire financial system of America. In 1985, Tanya finally got caught in a fraud, but escaped from prison and returned to criminal activities. When she was arrested a second time, the court sentenced her to 24 years in prison. At that time, this was the longest sentence for non-violent crimes committed in the United States.
