Two of Spain's most recognizable actors, Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas, have agreed to co-star in a forthcoming film from The Mediapro Studio in Madrid, entitled Competencia Oficial (Official Competition *). The film will be directed by Mariano Cohn and Gaston Duprat (Citizen of Honor).|
The last time Cruz and Banderas worked together was in 2013 on the set of Pedro Almodovar's I Am Very Horny, but then it was only small cameos. Recently, both stars of the Iberian Peninsula again starred with the Spanish director in the film Pain and Glory, which we wrote about earlier, but never appeared together in the same scene. By the way, this work brought Banderas an award for Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival, a Goya award, and an Oscar nomination.
The third largest star of the upcoming film was Oscar Martinez ("Freeman", "The Empty Nest"), winner of the Venice and San Sebastian film festivals. The cast also included film veteran Jose Luis Gomez (Pascual Duarte's Family), Carlos Ipolito (Ministry of Time), Irena Escolar (Tell Me Who I Am) and others.
Film company The Mediapro Studio opened with fanfare last March, and already at that time the studio was working on 34 series with ready-made scripts at various stages of production. The list included collaborations with HBO, Canal Plus and Sky Italia, Disney, DirecTV Latin America, Viacom Intl. Studios, Turner Latin America, Vice and Amazon Prime Video.
