Universal has found a director for The Little Mermaid
Studio Universal continues to work on the full-length feature film The Little Mermaid . Six months have passed since Sofia Coppola left the director's chair of the project, but, according to The Wrap , Rebecca Thomas may be taking her place. At the moment, the filmmaker is negotiating with the studio management.Chloe Grace Moretz got the main role in the next film adaptation of the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. Richard Curtis (Love Actually) is working on the new version of the script, and Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are producing the picture. Universal has been developing the project for several years. Initially The Little Mermaid was dealt with by Joe Wright, but in the end he preferred the tape to another fantastic epic - "Peng: A Journey to Neverland." After Wright , the studio turned to Coppola , and she was listed as a director for more than a year, but abandoned the project, citing creative differences with the major.  So far in the filmography of Rebecca Thomas there is only one film - the drama "Children Are No Longer", but the director is assigned to another promising project - the adaptation of John Green's novel "In Search of Alaska", which the studio is working on Paramount .
