”The Little Mermaid” was left without a director
As it became known to the information portal Collider , Sofia Coppola has left the director's chair of "The Little Mermaid" - a full-length fiction film adaptation of the famous fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.The source says that the conflict between Coppola and Universal was caused by creative differences. So, the director, after a long search for the leading actress, planned to invite the aspiring actress Maya Thurman-Hawk, but the studio bosses did not dare to take such a step. However, despite the fact that the project has lost its director, Universal is not going to stop there. The final script was written by Caroline Thompson (Edward Scissorhands), who edited the text for Kelly Marcel and Abi Morgan. Initially, Joe Wright was invited to direct the film adaptation, but in the end he preferred the project "Peng: Journey to Neverland".  The studio undoubtedly wants to finish work on the picture as soon as possible, because its competitor Disney is planning at least eight reboots of its own popular cartoons. Filming of Beauty and the Beast is currently underway in London, and The Jungle Book will be released in 2016.  The last film by Sofia Coppola , which gained recognition in Hollywood after "The Virgin Suicides" and "Lost in Translation", was the crime drama "Elite Society".
