The Martian Spurred Change for the Golden Globe
No sooner had critics, American academics and guild members presented the 2015 film awards than preparations for the next season of distribution of prestigious prizes began in Hollywood. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced the date of the 74th Golden Globe Awards , and has also made changes to the procedure for selecting nominees for its award.At the end of December last year, the Association suffered a barrage of criticism when The Martian escaped a fierce battle for the title of Best Drama Film of the Year by moving into the comedy and musical category. In the end, Ridley Scott's blockbuster not only won this nomination, but also brought Matt Damon the title of Best Comedian.  According to a press release, dramas with a comedy touch will now have to be categorized as Best Drama, making life difficult for studio bosses who have often tried to promote their projects in the wrong categories. The new selection rules still leave a small loophole for representatives of film companies: a transition to another nomination can occur if two-thirds of the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association vote to change the genre of the film.
