Tarantino: “My friends talked me out of the movie about Luke Cage”
This year, the online service Netflix released its next series based on the comics Marvel , "Jessica Jones" ( Jessica Jones ), in which viewers were presented superhero Luke Cage performed by Mike Coulter. Luke will also have a show of its own, due out next year.For a long time, rumors circulated on the web that Cage comics would be carried over to large or small screens. More than ten years ago, when the cinematic universe of Marvel had only to dream, Luke wanted to give the screen life to Quentin Tarantino . The director himself is an ardent comic book fan, and Luke Cage is his favorite character. In a conversation with journalists, Nerdist Tarantino said that in the distant 90s, preparing "Pulp Fiction", which eventually became a cult, he dreamed of removing the tape and about Cage .Before Pulp Fiction came along, I had ideas for several other projects, and one of them was the movie about Cage , - admitted the filmmaker.  Back then, moviegoers had not yet learned the joy of watching The Avengers, X-Men and Spider-Man. What can we say, the only popular comic-book film at that time was "Batman", and Marvel would hardly have gone to allow a director like Tarantino to take on Luke Cage . However, Quentin himself eventually abandoned this tempting idea: “Friends talked me out. In their opinion, the ideal Luke would be Wesley Snipes, and I saw Laurence Fishburne in this image. Of course, both of them would have coped with the role, but the version with Lawrence I liked more. And my friends thought that Wesley Snipes had a gorgeous body, which should be a Cage ... And then I realized that if I ever make a superhero film, it’s about a character I’ll come up with myself so that I don’t have to fit into someone’s frame. ”  Some filmmakers strictly follow the canon, while others want to create something of their own. The latter includes Tarantino , and the audience is incredibly lucky that the director follows his heart and makes an original movie.
