Gareth Edwards escaped Godzilla
Studios Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. are forced to start looking for a new director for the second part of " Godzilla ". According to The Hollywood Reporter , the director of the 2014 blockbuster Gareth Edwards has refused to participate in the creation of the next chapter of the story about the giant monster.Gareth drew the attention of Hollywood majors with his low-budget sci-fi movie "Monsters", after which the bosses Legendary and WB decided to entrust him $ 160-millionth reboot of " Godzilla ". The young director justified the hopes placed on him: the tape earned more than $ 529 million at the worldwide box office and was mostly warmly received by critics, although there were enough of those in our country who were not satisfied with the new project. The success of the blockbuster helped Edwards get the position of director of the first spin-off of the space saga "Star Wars". Gareth planned to start creating the sequel to " Godzilla " immediately after the completion of the film "Rogue One. Star Wars: Stories ", but now it turned out that the director somewhat overestimated his own strength.  The studio bosses were ready to give Edwards a break, and the premiere date of Godzilla 2 has been pushed back from June 2018 to March 2019. Ultimately, however, Gareth still chose to leave the project, citing fatigue from hard work on two expensive and large-scale films in a row. As previously reported, in the sequel, viewers can meet with such iconic characters of the franchise as Mothra , Rodan and King Ghidora . The planned blockbuster is also expected to set the stage for the upcoming " Godzilla " and "King Kong" crossover.
