JJ Abrams Prepares Half-Life and Portal Adaptations
In 2013, at the DICE Summit the head of the video game company Valve Gabe Newell and the famous Hollywood filmmaker J.J. Abrams announced their desire to work together. Representatives of two popular types of the entertainment industry have mentioned plans to create screen versions of the cult games Half-Life and Portal , but for almost three years no word has been heard about these projects.As part of the promotional campaign for Cloverfield 10, Abrams gave an interview to IGN , in which he finally delighted a large army of gamers with information about the fate of the adaptations of Half-Life and Portal . “Projects based on these games are in development, - said JJ . -Attached are authors who are already working on scripts. Abrams has not yet clarified whether we are talking about full-length films or TV series. JJ has extensive experience in both film and television. With his active participation, the popular Star Trek and Star Wars franchises have returned to the big screens, and his television projects include such famous TV series as 11.22.63 ( 11.22.63 ), Suspect ”( Person of Interest ),“ Beyond the Boundary ”( Fringe ) and“ Lost ”( Lost ).  Newell and his team are such big fans of “ Lost ” that they even left a few Easter eggs in Half-Life 2 for fellow history fans about a mysterious island. In anticipation of the Super 8 release, Valve has also created an interactive trailer for the sci-fi thriller Abrams based on its Portal 2 .  According to Abrams , the film adaptations of Half-Life and Portal are in the early stages of work, but it should not be ruled out that he simply does not want to reveal all the cards ... It's no secret that JJ has long been famous for the ability to surround his films and TV shows with an aura of mystery. So, only a couple of months before the premiere of the new production project Abrams it became known that its plot would be associated with the film "Monstro". Interestingly, the director's chair of the thriller " 10 Cloverfield " was taken by Daniel Trachtenberg, who came to the attention of JJ thanks to his work on a short film based on the game Portal .
