Sony will give Cleopatra another chance

Image Believe it or not, Sony Pictures acquired the rights to film Stacy Schiff's book about the life of Egypt's last queen back in 2006. When Angelina Jolie joined the project, the studio set out to time the premiere of Cleopatra to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the 1963 epic of the same name starring Elizabeth Taylor.

The plans of the bosses Sony were not destined to come true: first the film was left by director David Fincher, and then the studio was unable to conclude a deal with Ang Lee. The last time the official news about the fate of " Cleopatra " came in July 2014. Then Jolie announced that she was continuing to search for a new steering project, but a couple of months later, Sony found herself in the center of a huge scandal when hackers got hold of emails from the studio management.

From them it became known that Angelina tried to return to the director's chair the biopic David Fincher , who at that moment was preparing for the filming of the drama "Steve Jobs". Producer Scott Rudin urged Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal to pressure the actress to leave the director alone. Ultimately, Fincher left the Steve Jobs project, but Cleopatra was never launched.
