Gulfstream Pictures will give viewers the opportunity to get acquainted with the details of the life of one of the greatest choreographers of the 20th century - George Balanchine . The studio has acquired the rights to film the book Elizabeth Kendall " Balanchine and the Lost Muse ", reports Deadline .Georgy Balanchivadze was born in 1904 in St. Petersburg. At the age of nine, he was enrolled in the ballet school at the Mariinsky Theater . After the October Revolution, the educational institution was closed, which is why George was able to return to his studies only a few years later. After graduation, he was accepted into the troupe of the State Theater of Opera and Ballet , where the ballerina Lidia Ivanova became his muse. However, the girl soon died under unclear circumstances. In 1924, while on tour in Germany, Balanchivadze accepted Sergei Diaghilev's invitation to stay in Europe and take the position of choreographer of the USA Ballet . At the same time, the famous entrepreneur suggested George to change his name and surname in the Western manner - George Balanchine . Nine years later, the choreographer moved to the United States, where he managed to win worldwide fame and the title of founding father of American ballet.  The script for the biographical drama will be led by David K. Israel and produced by the ballerina Zippora Karz, who was personally acquainted with the maestro. The plot will reportedly focus on the choreographer's life story prior to his emigration to the West. Gulfstream Pictures also plans to work on a sequel to the animated film The Real Squirrel, a biblical epic about King David and an adaptation of the children's satirical novel Frindle .
