Studio Sony , which spent almost six years on the development of a full-length cartoon about the adventures of the sailor Popeye , decided to make an attempt to save the project in distress.In the summer of 2012, the famous animator Genndi Tartakovsky was appointed as the cartoon's production designer. Two years later, he presented to the public a test video of the tape, which earned positive reviews from critics and fans of stories about the brave spinach lover. Despite this, last spring, the studio management unexpectedly changed the vector of the project's development, which forced Tartakovsky to leave the director's chair " Popeye " and switch his attention to work on the continuation of his cult animated series " Samurai Jack "( Samurai Jack ). As reported by Deadline , Sony bosses have finally decided on the fate of Popeye . The first step towards the revival of the project will be a complete reworking of the cartoon's plot. The new version of the text will be written by T.J. Fixman, who over the years has made his way from a video game scriptwriter to a creative consultant for the film department of the toy company Hasbro .  Popeye first appeared in the comic pages of Thimble Theater in 1929. Four years later, the sailor decided to devote a series of animated short films, after which he finally entered popular culture and acquired the status of one of the most famous cartoon heroes in history.
