Marvel Cinematic Universe star Sebastian Stan is ready to dive into the brutal world of organized crime. According to The Tracking Board, the actor accepted an invitation from New Regency and Appian Way Studios to play the lead role in the adaptation of Josh Basell's crime novel Beat the Reaper.The debut work of the American writer went on sale in 2009. The book received many accolades in the press and attracted attention in Hollywood. In the same year, the film adaptation rights were acquired by New Regency, which hired Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way studio to work on the film. Leo planned to take on the production functions, as well as play the main role in the thriller. At the end of 2011, New Regency management unexpectedly decided to transform the project into a series format. For more than six years, not a word was heard about the television adaptation of "Kill the Reaper", and many fans of Basell's work even began to think that she had rested in the Bose. Judging by new information from the New Regency camp, the bosses of the Hollywood studio did not forget about the bestseller and decided to return to the idea of transferring its characters to the big screen.  The main character of the book is Peter Brown, an intern in the emergency department at Manhattan Hospital. One day businessman Nicholas LoBrutto will get to the clinic. To his surprise, he recognizes the young doctor as a mafia hitman who turned in his bosses and disappeared from view using a witness protection program. When Nicholas begins to threaten to betray Peter to the leaders of the New York crime family, the false doctor has a difficult choice - to go on the run or take up the old and deal with the talkative patient ... As it became known to Hollywood insiders, in the end DiCaprio decided to cede the main role to Stan and limit himself only to production functions.  The script for the crime thriller belongs to the creators of the TV series Billions Brian Koppelman and David Levin.
