”Sundance - 2019”. Winners

Image The 35th Annual Sundance Film Festival is ending in Park City, Utah. This year, the organizers of the world's premier independent film show received a record 14,259 applications. 112 films from 33 countries of the world were selected for the main competition programs. Forty-five of them were filmed by budding directors.

Sundance is a great opportunity for the creators of humble independent films to make a name for themselves and make great deals with distributors. This year, representatives of the Amazon online service showed the greatest activity at the festival. On the third day of the screening, the streaming giant broke the Sundance record by paying $ 13 million for the rights to the American distribution of the dramedy Late Night. Within a few days, this figure was broken when New Line studio laid out $ 15 million for the picture "Blinded by the Light". Nevertheless, Amazon retained the title of the most generous distributor. According to insiders, the total amount of transactions involving the streaming service has exceeded $ 50 million.

The jury of the festival included actress Tessa Thompson, screenwriter Phyllis Nage and director Damien Chazelle, who won the Sundance Grand Prix with the music tape "Obsession". This year, the main award was won by the drama "Pardon" about the head of a maximum security prison who had to reconsider her views on the death penalty.
