DC to launch Stargirl TV series

Image Less than a month after Jeff Jones left his post as consultant for the DC Universe, it became known that he signed up for a new project from Warner Bros. Deadline reports that he will co-write and executive produce Stargirl for the upcoming DC Universe streaming service with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter Jones.

The show, which will be the sixth for the new platform, was announced today at Comic-Con. The series will tell the story of high school student Courtney Whitmore, who will join the Justice Society of America team of superheroes and fight villains for 13 episodes.

The new project was very close to Jones' heart. "Stargirl was the first character I created for DC," commented the comic book writer. “Most importantly, Courtney Whitmore was inspired by my late sister. I'm glad that I have the opportunity to tell a story about such a personal character for me. Besides, the image of a young and purposeful superheroine seems to me very important in modern realities. ”

Courtney Whitmore's character first appeared in comics in 1999. Stargirl is the daughter of Pat Dugan, partner of Sylvester Pemberton, also known as Starship. After Kourtney discovers her father's costume, she decides to start her superhero career. Her weapon is the space staff, with which Stargirl flies and controls energy. The new show will not be Courtney's first small screen appearance: she has already been portrayed by Brittney Irwin in Smallville and Sarah Gray in Legends of Tomorrow. In addition, Stargirl has appeared in the animated series Justice League and Batman: Courage and Courage.

In addition to comics and the DC television universe, Jeff Jones also works on the studio's feature films. He is the executive producer of Green Lantern Corps and co-wrote and co-produced Aquaman with Jason Momoa.

The series will premiere in 2019 and the DC Universe streaming service will launch this fall.
