Guru in DC Comic Book adaptations, executive producer of Arrow, Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow, Greg Berlanti co-designs with spouses Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil (The Game) the drama Black Lightning dedicated to one of DC's premier African American superheroes, Black Lightning. The character, which debuted in 1977, was created by Tony Isabella and Trevor von Eden.

The upcoming series does not have a home yet, but the series, in development at Warner Bros. Studios. Television is already being offered to television networks.

The official synopsis reads as follows: "Jefferson Pierce made his choice: many years ago he hung his superhero costume in the closet and forgot about his second self." But now, when his daughter is obsessed with justice, and a brilliant student decides to work for a local gang, Pierce realizes that it is time to return as a vigilant and legend of DC – Black Lightning ".

In the print comic, Pierce had two daughters who both became superheroines - Anisa Pierce / Thunder, a member of The Outsiders; and Jennifer Pierce / Lightning, recruited by the Justice Society of America.
