Cumberbatch will stop the Cuban missile crisis

Image While "Patrick Melrose", another potential TV hit starring Benedict Cumberbatch, prepares for the premiere, the British actor is shaping his future plans. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Sherlock star has staked out the lead in a true-to-life spy thriller called Ironbark. The scriptwriter is Tom O'Connor (The Hitman's Bodyguard), and Dominic Cook (On the Shore) will direct the filming.

According to the source, the film will tell how during the Cold War, British businessman Greville Wynn, working for intelligence, came into contact with GRU Colonel Oleg Penkovsky and staged an operation that ended the Cuban missile crisis.

Benedict Cumberbatch will not only play Wynn, but also co-executive produce alongside Cook and O'Connor. The filming will be funded by FilmNation, and the search for a distributor will begin in Cannes later this month.

Cumberbatch has previously collaborated with Dominic Cook on the 2012 TV series The Empty Crown, and both were BAFTA nominations. FilmNation bosses are confident that the second collaboration between the two talented people will lead to equally impressive results. In the meantime, fans of one of the most sought-after Britons in the film industry are counting the days until the premiere of Patrick Melrose, which is scheduled for May 10.
