Official: Jamie Foxx Becomes Spawn
Earlier this month, rumors surfaced that Oscar-winning Jamie Foxx had been offered the lead role in the upcoming Spawn reboot. Now the actor's participation in the filming of the film comic strip has been officially confirmed, as reported by the Deadline portal. Fox will play the title character in the adaptation of Todd McFarlane's graphic novels. The latter himself wrote the script for the film and is listed as its director, and the project will be financially supported by Blumhouse.Spawn appeared on the printed pages in the early 90s. McFarlane's comic strip enjoyed immense popularity among readers, and therefore it is not surprising that it was used as the basis for the animated series and feature film in 1997, which, however, turned out to be not very successful, barely recouping the budget and causing negative reactions from critics and viewers. The main character of the new version will still be Al Simmons, a CIA special agent who, after his death, ended up in the underworld. There he made a deal with a demon and returned to Earth in the guise of an immortal warrior of hell to see his wife and take revenge on his offenders.  McFarlane intends to make a dark and tough movie with an R rating. According to the author of the original comics, he is thinking about an entire trilogy, and he certainly will not waste time on Spawn's backstory. Moreover, the central character will also be laconic. Firstly, Fox has wanted to play Spawn since the days when the reboot was first talked about, and secondly, the Oscar winner McFarlane sees a professional who can express more with body language than words.
