Gosling Astronaut and Lumberjack Cage: Watch This Week

Image The focus of the audience's attention this coming week will undoubtedly be the biographical drama about the first man to walk on the lunar surface. Fans of the festival cinema will delight in a blood-red horror about a vengeful lumberjack and another madness from the shocking Gaspar Noe. In both films, by the way, a well-known psychotropic substance will play an important role. For those tired of serious cinema, distributors can find a trump card in the form of a detective in the spirit of Agatha Christie and a USA melodrama about two rivals.

Man on the Moon ". Through hardships to the stars

After La La Lenda's six Oscar winnings, Damien Chazelle and musical star Ryan Gosling reunite to bring Neil Armstrong's story to the big screen. So far, the Golden Lion nominee and the opening film of this year's Venice Film Festival holds a pretty high 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The journalists of the portal IndieWire called the film an incredibly intense anti-thriller and praised the acting of Gosling and his on-screen wife Claire Foy.

As in the director's previous works, the main character will go through a thorny path to success. The film, based on the book of the same name by James R. Hansen, tells the story of the sacrifices that had to be made for a man who completed one of the most dangerous missions in the history of the country and set foot on an Earth satellite for the first time. The tape will not retell in detail the historical events of the Gemini space program, excellently shown in the films "Apollo 13" and "The Good Boys", but rather will present the story from the point of view of the famous astronaut and focus on his personal experiences.

"Mandy". Mad Max on LSD

Italian-born Canadian director Panos Kosmatos made a name for himself with his directorial debut, Beyond the Black Rainbow, a psychedelic science fiction. In his second film, which premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival, the director does not change his brand identity. Spectators will find fountains of blood, insane Nicolas Cage, occult sacrifice, bikers from the other world and crystal clear love. The director himself said that the idea for the plot came to him after he lost both parents.

The film tells the story of a lumberjack with the speaking name Red and the illustrator of Mandy's tabloid novels, who live happily together. Their idyll is destroyed by a religious cult led by the vile leader Jeremiah. At night, they summon a gang of demonic bikers and with their help kidnap a girl whom they want to recruit in a rather strange way. Neon red light illuminates the action, merging with the psychedelic madness of the villains. The show is definitely worth a visit if you want to get into a bad trip with Cage, and for fans of more conventional horror movies the slasher movie Hellfest will be released next week.

Nothing good at the El Royale ". Hell is others

The second directorial work of the Oscar nominee for the script of "The Martian" Drew Goddard brought together a good cast straight from Hollywood: here and the superhero Chris Hemsworth, and BDSM lover Dakota Johnson, and mad John Hamm, and lazy alcoholic Jeff Bridges.

The plot of a detective in the spirit of "Ten Little Indians" by Agatha Christie will unfold around seven strangers who meet in the remote El Royale hotel with a dark past. The guests, each of whom keeps his secret, will get a chance for retribution before everything goes to hell. Here the opinions of critics were divided: some say that the film flirts with too many different themes, because it looks like a hodgepodge, while others, on the contrary, praise the director for his mature work, witty dialogues and detailed elaboration of the characters.

Ecstasy. " Dance while you're young

Connoisseurs of European cinema should pay attention to the new work of the author of the scandalous "Irreversibility". Gaspard Noe once again sends viewers on a hypnotic, hallucinatory and ultimately eerie journey that turns into frenzied delirium. A troupe of young dancers gathers in an empty school to rehearse. After the performance, masterfully filmed by cameraman Benoit Deby ("Entering the Void", "How to Catch a Monster"), the guys decide to celebrate the event and have a drink. But the party turns into a nightmare after the dancers discover that someone has added powerful LSD to their sangria.

From glee to chaos, Noe talks about fall, rivalry, and violence during a collective psychedelic crisis. The main role is played by Sofia Boutella (Explosive Blonde), and she was accompanied by professional dancers. According to critics, Ecstasy, which won the International Confederation of Feature Film Award at the Cannes Film Festival, is the director's most shameless and authoritative statement.

Without me ". Chasing Dimon

The honor of the domestic cinema next week will be defended by the melodrama of Kirill Pletnev. In his own film, the director will embody the image of a deceased guy, from whose number his former girls receive mysterious SMS. The heroines of Polina Maksimova and Lyubov Aksenova, who hate each other with all their hearts, will have to work together to find out who is manipulating them.

It is rather difficult to take seriously the film, in the incredibly pretentious trailer of which the phrase “Dimon died” sounds, and the plot exploits the theme of female rivalry. But Pletnev's track record includes a good dramatic work "Burn!", So, perhaps, the director managed to stage something of a higher quality than the TV series of USA 1.
