The Chinese Adventures of an American Mercenary

Image The success of "Alienist" on the small screens did not go unnoticed by the filmmakers, and now the second book of the military historian Caleb Carr will be transferred to the screens, this time on the big ones. According to Deadline, the project will be developed by Antoine Fuqua ("The Shooter"), who began his career with music videos for artists such as Toni Braxton and Prince.

Fukua took on the film adaptation of The Devil Soldier * about the life of the American sailor and adventurer Frederick Townsend Ward. Antoine will produce the tape together with Mark Burman ("Man is a wolf to man"), and later, possibly, will sit in the director's chair.

The book tells about the Chinese adventures of Ward, who, as a rebel and a man of a very independent disposition, could not realize himself in his homeland, in America of the 19th century, went as a sailor, participated in the Crimean War on the side of the French army. He became famous during the Taiping uprising - the peasant war in China against the Qing Manchu empire and foreign colonialists. As a mercenary, he fought on the side of the ruling dynasty. The writer's work was warmly received by critics who christened it the American version of Lawrence of Arabia in 19th-century China. Historical non-fiction has sold millions of copies.
