"Zootopia" from the very first minutes does not allow the viewer to build illusions about the very possibility of the existence of a world in which herbivores and predators would live in complete harmony, not only not eating each other, but not touching each other at all. On the contrary, directors Byron Howard (`` Rapunzel: A Tangled Story '') and Rich Moore (`` Ralph '') are not shy about the cruel truth: utopias, like idylls, do not exist. There will always be disputes, problems, misunderstandings and obstacles, but the very goal of the story of a miniature rabbit, who decided to become the first police officer of her kind, is to show that despite all the trips that fate prepares you, you need to be more persistent and smarter, and then luck will sooner or later show its sly smile.
This is the main difference between the “ Zootopia ” from all the latest cartoons: this is a very serious movie that has managed to incredibly cleverly disguise a number of topical issues behind a light, comedic plot. Yes, this is a comedy about the talkative and not completely law-abiding fox Nick and the quirky, emotional rabbit Judy, who find themselves entangled in the dark case of the disappearance of fourteen predators. However, it is also a metaphor of our world, unexpectedly very accurate and covering so much in such a short period of time that everyone will undoubtedly find themselves in this fantastic city.
At the same time, the creators do not turn the `` Zootopia ''; into a parody, although they are obviously flirting with this idea. Disney Executive Producer and Head of Animation John Lasseter is known for focusing on characters, and that is why the story does not indulge in free wandering through the streets of Zootopia in an attempt to stumble upon another joke. The action develops quite organically and takes the heroes into enough places to allow the viewer to feel the taste of life in the city of animals: what kind of life there is to live, work and rest there. Of course, all the places that are firmly connected with each other by evidence are selected by the creators solely in terms of how many jokes the animators can squeeze out of a given situation, which turns the first half of the movie into a comedy sketch rather than a full-length movie.
Although it's a sin to complain about it, because jokes never get bored and you keep laughing at them, so that interest in the events of the movie never disappears. And yet “ Zootopia ” turned out to be a little too adult: by the beginning of the third act, younger children begin to whine and ask to use the toilet. The movie may even seem a little too long. The audience is introduced to the new world for so long that in the end the plot may seem endless, which will not be true. The story is actually extremely simple, even the main villain can be recognized at a glance. This presentation makes her so diverse and significant.
“ Zootopia ” full of soul. No one is interested in squeezing tears out of the public, but it is extremely easy to get a feel for the simple idea that we could live in an equal world free from stereotypes and discrimination. She elicits an emotional response more than any movie since Puzzle, and not so much teaches kids as she makes it clear that somewhere out there, perhaps in the future, a better world might await us, but first we have to build it.
Animated “ Zootopia ” also wonderful. It's not just the characters. All of them are plush to the point of absurdity, so all the meters of grace burst from overload. In addition, they are also very human. The relationship between the characters drawn immediately evokes the most vivid memories of people and events in their own lives. We all have something of either Judy or Nick.
The design of Zootopia is also truly amazing. The eyes do not know where to run, what to look at. Bright colors sparkle everywhere, life is in full swing, feet start to dance from the very first notes of Shakira's new song, and the creators have such a meticulous imagination that you want to immediately buy a ticket to such a city.
You want to get there, even though the directors are not shy about the gloom of certain moments. They are not interested in showing places where there is no conflict. Heroes find themselves in dangerous and often truly scary situations, but these are the moments that are firmly engraved in the memory. In addition, these very moments look the most interesting, because they often end in the most unexpected areas: fortresses at the edge of a waterfall, jungle, subway, museum. Action in “ Zootopia ” not so much, but it is put on the level of the best feature movies. This is a very harmonious cartoon in the sense that it successfully combines a creative visual approach and a universal, beautiful story that will no doubt entertain everyone, young and old.
A journey to “ Zootopia ” turned out to be sparklingly funny, emotionally dramatic and deep without any hints of its own significance. It will make you believe not only in yourself, but in others too, to recognize not only how we differ from each other, but also how we are similar to each other. Therefore, this is a journey worth living on the big screen.
