Will Doom take over theaters again?

Image Back in 2011, there were rumors that Universal was going to shoot a new 3D adaptation of the Doom video game series, but this information was never confirmed. But thanks to the twitter of actress and singer Nina Bergman ("Chemist"), the press managed to find out that after seven years the shooter will still reach the screens for the second time.

So, Bergman in her account announced that she signed up to take part in the filming of a film based on the game Doom. Studio Universal itself is in no hurry to confirm this information, and there is no other news about the project yet. However, based on Bergman's reports, some journalists suggested that Tony Giglio ("Chaos") was chosen to direct the adaptation.

The first Doom game was released back in 1993. It largely predetermined the development of such a direction as a first-person shooter, and ultimately acquired a sequel, a number of spin-offs and reboots. The central player is a space special forces soldier who is sent to Mars, where something terrible is happening: because of the opening of the gate, hellish creatures appeared here. In 2005, Universal filmed Doom, inviting Dwayne Johnson and Karl Urban to star. And if now the presence of the Rock can ensure the success of almost any film, then for Doom Johnson was nominated for the Golden Raspberry, and the action movie itself grossed $ 56 million at the box office with a budget of $ 60 million, which immediately put an end to its possible continuation.

And although the action of Andrzej Bartkowiak could boast of good special effects for its time, the cardboard characters, the plot far from the original and the unfortunate script did their job. It is not yet clear what the new film adaptation of Doom is, but the presence of little-known to the general public Bergman and Giglio on her team makes it doubtful that the project will receive sufficient funding to create a blockbuster. Maybe Universal plans to send it straight to video at all.
