Honey, I've reduced the Harvardians

Image In the summer of 2015, we reported that DreamWorks had acquired the film rights to the latest novel by Jurassic Park, Ambulance, and Westworld creator Michael Crichton. As it became known to Deadline, serious progress has finally taken place in the work on the film adaptation of the action-packed thriller Micro.

It was originally supposed that Darren Lemke would write the script for the film. It seems that over the past three years the author of "Horror" and "Shrek Forever" managed to retire from the project. Neil Widener and Gavin James, whose names are not yet well known to the general public, have been appointed as the new writers for Micro.

The former composed and directed the low-budget action-adventure Subdivision, Colorado, several years ago, and the latter debuted in Hollywood with the thriller Footsteps. After joining the duo, the affairs of Neal and Gavin went uphill. Three years ago, they sold to Paramount Pictures studio a script application for the action-packed thriller Battle for Alcatraz, after which they received an invitation to work on the sequel to San Andreas Rift, the third part of Illusion of Deception and the military drama Freedom Road.

Michael Crichton died of lymphoma in November 2008. Shortly after the writer's death, an unfinished novel was found on his work computer. To honor Crichton's memory, HarperCollins handed the text over to Richard Preston, who titled the book Micro. The protagonists of the fascinating story were seven graduates of Harvard University, who received a luxurious offer to work in the Hawaiian branch of a large biotechnology corporation. Some time later, young scientists accidentally discovered the dark secret of their employers. To get rid of the witnesses, the bosses of the corporation reduced them to the size of insects and left them to certain death in the wild jungle ...

Last year it was reported that Joaquim Ronning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) is claiming the director's chair for the techno-thriller. Information about the appointment of Widener and James as scriptwriters for the film did not mention his name, and therefore it is possible that he followed Lemke's example and left the project. Honored Hollywood Veteran Frank Marshall (Back to the Future, Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark) will be producing Micro.
