Guillermo Del Toro will make his dream come true
After the resounding success of The Shape of Water at the Oscars, Guillermo del Toro decided to turn his attention to animation. According to Variety, Netflix has given the green light to the director's next project, Pinocchio, which will be filmed using puppet animation. The director will make his old dream come true to stage a classic children's fairy tale about a puppet dreaming of becoming a real living boy. The production of the tape will begin this fall.The cartoon will take place in Italy in the 1930s, when fascism was on the rise and Benito Mussolini was consolidating control over the country. Del Toro is famous for his works, in which he spoke out directly against totalitarian regimes, for example, in "Pan's Labyrinth" or "The Devil's Ridge". “No art form has influenced my life more than animation. I have never had such a deep personal connection with any character in history as I did with Pinocchio,- the director admitted. -In our story, this boy is an innocent soul with an indifferent father, lost in a world that he cannot comprehend. He goes on an extraordinary journey that helps him understand his parent and the surrounding reality. I have always wanted to make this film as long as I can remember. ”  Patrick McHale (Adventure Time, Gravity Falls) will co-write the screenplay with del Toro, and Mark Gustafson (Fantastic Mr. Fox) will share the director's chair with Guillermo.
