Happy Death Day Schoolgirls

Image Nostalgic 80s music, two young girlfriends, and an unsuccessful party in which the protagonists face demonic forces is a great storyline for a movie or TV show these days. This is exactly what Endeavor Content, behind the dramatic thriller Killing Eve, decided. The studio has acquired the rights to the full-length adaptation of Grady Hendrix's novel My Best Friend's Exorcism. The Hollywood Reporter reports.

Christopher Landon, director and screenwriter for the horror film Happy Day of Death and its sequel, will produce and possibly lead the adaptation. Written by Jenna Lamia (Beverly Hills 90210: The Next Generation).

The original book is set in 1988. Abby and Gretchen have been friends since childhood, but in high school everything changes. One day the girls decide to try LSD, and Gretchen disappears into the forest. She returns a few hours later, claiming nothing happened. However, Abby doesn't think so. Her friend behaves strangely: she is prone to mood swings, is nervous, and wherever she is, something inexplicable is constantly happening around. The investigation leads Abby to a disappointing conclusion - most likely, a demon possessed Gretchen. And now the fate of the main characters depends on how strong their friendship is and whether it will withstand the test of the devil ...

Hendrix's book has been called a vicious hybrid of On the Beach dramedy and The Exorcist, a supernatural thriller that intertwines teenage fears, drama, unexplained horror and 80s pop music. Due to the fact that the central characters are two schoolgirl friends, the novel is also compared to such horror films as Jennifer's Body and Fatal Attraction.
