Sony's Superhero Universe Expands

Image While Marvel is in no hurry to divulge plans for its cinematic universe, Sony, on the other hand, is building its own superhero franchise and sharing news about it. In November, viewers will have the opportunity to see Venom in all its glory. Work on the movie about Spider-Man's friends is still at the script writing stage, and the major is already preparing the next project.

As the portal The Hollywood Reporter managed to find out, Sony bosses are eyeing Spike Lee, whom they plan to entrust to shoot the movie about Nightwatch. The first rumors that the director might work with Sony appeared last year, but only now has he begun negotiations with the studio. If the parties come to an agreement, Lee will have to implement the script of Cheo Hodari Coker ("Luke Cage").

Nightwatch's first appearance in print was in 1993. More often he was involved in graphic novels about Spider-Man, but later the hero received his own comic book series, which did not last long. African American scientist Kevin Trench, Nightwatch's alter ego, once witnessed the death of a masked superhero after his fight with terrorists. In the deceased, Trench recognized himself, only as an older age, and decided that if he never put on a superhero costume, then in the future he would not die. The trench set off to a secluded island, but in the end was forced to return home and accept his fate. Probably, the major decided to step up work on the Nightwatch project after Black Panther was successful at the worldwide box office.

Spike Lee's name is well known to connoisseurs of independent cinema. The director loudly announced himself with the films "Do it right" and "She needs it desperately", but his collaboration with major Hollywood studios did not have such a success. Thriller "Not caught - not a thief" was underestimated by the public, and the American "Oldboy" received negative reviews. Among Lee's latest works to date, one can find dramas "Chirac" and "Black Klansman".
