MGM found the Queen of Soul

Image The 60th anniversary Grammy Awards presented pleasant surprises not only for music lovers, but also for film fans. The main music event of the year was preceded by a party by renowned producer Clive Davis, at which it was announced that Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer had begun work on a biographical drama about the life of legendary American singer Aretha Franklin.

Oscar-winning Jennifer Hudson was one of the guest stars of the party, who sang such famous Franklin songs as “Think” and “Respect” for the guests of the evening. Shortly after her performance, Clive Davis announced to Deadline that the star of Dreamgirls would portray the Queen of Soul in the as-yet-untitled MGM film. According to the producer, Franklin personally approved Hudson's candidacy.

During her career, Aretha has won 18 Grammy awards, and her albums have sold 75 million copies. In 1987, she became the first woman to earn the right to enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and ten years ago the authoritative publication Rolling Stone recognized Franklin as the greatest singer in human history.
